Life is full of challenges and difficult moments. I believe that as human beings, we are wired to deal with our pain in ways that leave us feeling lost, exhausted, and hopeless. We may lose sight of our purpose, our values, our loved ones, and the many other aspects of life that make us whole and content. With humility and compassion, I aim to support you in dropping the struggle and finding new ways to achieve the well-being you deserve. You don’t have to figure it out alone, and I'm sure we'll share some laughs along the way. I utilize a psychodynamic lens which focuses on the unconscious forces that often drive our emotions and actions; including underlying desires and anxieties that are present deep within the mind yet influence personality and behavior. In addition, I will integrate CBT and DBT with the goal of reducing unwanted behaviors. If we work on ourselves and learn to care for ourselves, we can then be present and capable of helping those around us. I’d love to hear from you. I am best reached over e-mail or through my website.

Therapy with me is a space where you can show up exactly as you are. You don’t have to have the right words, have everything figured out, or feel like you need to hold it all together. You can laugh, cry, vent, swear, ramble, bring screenshots, tell me the whole story, go off on a tangent, or simply say, “I don’t even know where to start.” We can sort through it together, one thought at a time. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy; that’s part of what we’re here for. I work with adults (18+) who want to better understand themselves and their nervous system, feel less overwhelmed, and develop practical ways to navigate anxiety, stress, trauma responses, and life transitions. My goal is to create a space that feels comfortable, human, and supportive while helping you build tools you can actually use in everyday life.

It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Her vast experience spans across multiple settings and states, with a significant emphasis on acute care, addressing the needs of people across different age groups and objectives. Moreover, Michelle's strengths-based approach empowers clients, helping them harness their inherent potential and pave the way toward their goals. Beyond formal education, she constantly seeks out diverse resources to refine her expertise, ensuring her approach is both informed and empathetic. Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed by anxiety, upsetting intrusive thoughts, or past emotional wounds that continue to affect their relationships, confidence, and sense of safety. They are ready for relief, connection, and to feel more in control of their lives. I help clients by providing specialized treatments for anxiety conditions, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), perfectionism, and the deep echoes of trauma—from relational and intergenerational wounds to betrayal trauma. I believe therapy can help us grow, even through deep pain. My role is to help you approach yourself with curiosity and compassion while guiding you toward healing and meaningful change. If this feels like the right fit for you then let's connect.

I enjoy working with clients who are eager to improve areas in their lives related to self-esteem, relationships, intimacy, sexuality, trauma, and career satisfaction. Together we will increase your self-acceptance, authenticity, and connectedness with others; you will develop skills to reduce feelings of shame, anxiety, and hopelessness. My warm, open-minded, and non-judgmental style cultivates a process that is both inviting and challenging. We'll explore and confront the cognitive and behavioral blocks in your daily life, as well as past events that are still holding you back. Because no two individuals are the same, our treatment plan will be tailored to reflect your goals. In addition to being a psychotherapist, I have been a full-time professor at New York University for the past 20 years. I specialize in counseling clients in the entertainment industry, creatives in related fields, college students, and the LGBTQ community. Email me for a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to see if we would be a good fit.

As people, we are always in bloom. Over time, we become different versions of ourselves. The shifting landscape of how we relate to the world around us can be both thrilling and terrifying, and it can be hard to know how to process and adjust to life's transitions. I support clients in developing insight into their internal worlds, and exploring how core perspectives and beliefs shape interactions in the external world. Through this process, clients are able to identify aspects of past versions of themselves that are no longer serving them, and areas of strength that they can carry forward into future phases. I take an eclectic, person-centered approach to counseling in order to provide unique, personalized care. I prioritize creating a genuine connection with my clients based on trust, honesty, and respect. I balance creativity and practicality when problem-solving, and use psychoeducation to demystify and destigmatize mental health topics. My approach to counseling has been developed over three years of professional work in a variety of settings. I have worked with clients of all ages, with a wide variety of needs, abilities, and backgrounds. And, even with the skills I’ve acquired so far, I am also still in progress: I intend to continue learning, changing, and blooming along with you.

Starting therapy can be an exciting and daunting process. Working with a therapist allows you to have an unbiased third party listen to your story, validate your feelings and emotions and help foster and provide insight and support. Therapy can help you learn new strategies and techniques to help you better tolerate distress and view thoughts, feelings and situations differently. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where we can work together to identify and process issues you have been facing. Together we can reflect on previous thinking patterns and behaviors that have led to distress and discuss new options and possibilities.
