Some clients arrive feeling the weight of their anxiety. Others are in the middle of a transition—navigating changes in relationships, family dynamics, or adjusting to a new diagnosis or ongoing health condition. These transition moments can bring a level of uncertainty that’s hard to tolerate and often lead to second-guessing, especially when your body or health begins to feel unpredictable or outside of your control. I also work with individuals who experience intrusive thoughts or feel caught in patterns meant to prevent something bad from happening. These thoughts can feel unsettling or even at odds with who you are—making them confusing, distressing, and difficult to talk about. For some, these experiences are connected to obsessive-compulsive patterns (often referred to as OCD), even if that’s not a term you’ve used for yourself before. There are effective, evidence-based ways to work with OCD patterns, and we can talk through what that might look like for you. At the heart of my work is the belief that therapy is a collaborative process. You should want to talk to your therapist, and from the very beginning, I focus on creating a space where you can talk openly about what’s actually on your mind. The relationship between therapist and client matters deeply. Meaningful change tends to happen when people feel understood, respected, and able to show up honestly— even when what they’re bringing to session feels messy, confusing, or hard to put into words. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and no single approach works for every person or every situation. I draw from a range of approaches and tailor the work to each client’s needs, goals, and experiences. Depending on what feels most helpful, this might include building a clearer understanding of the patterns you’re caught in, exploring where those patterns come from, or finding new ways to respond to them. Across all of this, my focus is on helping you make sense of what you’re experiencing and shift the patterns that are keeping you stuck so they begin to have less of a hold on you over time.

You are really tired. If you’re being honest, your head is spinning & you’re anxious all the time. It’s keeping you from being able to rest, let alone enjoy life. Your thoughts are moving so fast, that it’s hard to stay focused. Now you’re starting to have headaches, racing heart, & tightness in your chest. You’re not sure what to do about it. All you know is that you don’t feel your best & feel that you’ve been letting people down. You feel disappointed in yourself & wonder what is going on with you. Usually things go according to plan and right now that is definitely not happening. It’s starting to become too much. You are really tired. Maybe you're the person everyone comes to when they need help, but lately you're realizing you could use some support, too. You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in your thoughts, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. Perhaps you know what you should do, but struggle to feel better. I work with young adults navigating anxiety, stress, self-worth, relationships, trauma, and major life transitions. Together, we'll slow things down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and build practical tools that help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control. I offer warm, collaborative telehealth therapy grounded in CBT and trauma-informed care. We'll explore the connection between your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and body while developing strategies for managing anxiety, setting boundaries, improving relationships, and building self-compassion. My goal is to help you understand yourself and create change. Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when you're used to handling things on your own. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and make sense of what you're carrying. Sometimes, the first step is simply having a safe place to begin.

College life presents its own unique opportunities for self-growth. You may be bringing unresolved childhood issues with you to college, struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, fear, or stress impacting daily life. I offer a non-judgemental and safe place for students to explore. I utilize EMDR, CBT, Solution-Focused, and strengths based approaches to therapy. I enjoy collaborating with students to help them successfully navigate the challenges that they are experiencing. Regardless of the challenge, we will work together to develop a plan that targets individual goals, feels supportive and productive, and is geared toward reducing distress while fostering growth, understanding, independence, and overall well-being. I am experienced in utilizing a variety of approaches, which allows me to shift between modalities and work with each individual to determine what will work best. Beginning therapy can be an overwhelming experience for some. I am committed to ensuring that the space feels safe and supportive, and that the overall experience is as positive as possible.
Marisa Mohrer, LICSW, LLC
I offer 60 minute sessions and specialize in half day therapy retreats. A therapy retreat is an efficient and comprehensive pathway to heal trauma in consecutive days instead of over many years in weekly therapy, and can accelerate symptom relief. I utilize evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Progressive Counting, and the Flash Technique to effectively heal the roots of distressing emotions and negative beliefs stored within traumatic memories. I bring my passion for somatic psychology, trauma-sensitive mindfulness, and attachment theory to my therapeutic approach. I invite my clients to offer a gentle curiosity to all parts of themselves, so that together we may attune to what the body, heart, and spirit are most needing to restore wholeness. I offer Telehealth and in-person sessions at my Portland Old Port office. I welcome the opportunity to hear from you to determine if my services are a good fit for what you are seeking.

You’re eager to come home to yourself, and grow roots there - no matter what life throws your way. Life can be both messy and beautiful, and sometimes in the drama we lose connection with the inner wisdom that helps us navigate the changing seasons. We might feel far from ourselves, longing for confidence, peace, and contentment. This is your invitation to rediscover yourself—to cultivate the joy, creativity, and inner wisdom that may have felt out of reach. Together, we’ll create a space that feels alive, compassionate, and safe for your whole self to unfold. I integrate expressive arts therapy, mindfulness, somatic awareness, and attachment-based approaches to help you reconnect with your body’s wisdom and your innate creative spark. Through movement, art, reflection, and presence, we’ll explore what it means to trust yourself again—to feel more grounded, open, and authentically you. I work with people who want to feel more rooted and confident in themselves—whether you're discovering who you are in new ways or moving through an important life change. Many of the folks I support are navigating transitions like entering young adulthood/quarterlife, shifting in midlife, or facing the complexities of major illness, grief, and end-of-life caregiving. I also walk with people exploring post-traumatic growth, reconnecting with creativity, or seeking a whole-person approach to wellbeing. Often, I simply meet people in that tender place of feeling tired and ready for something new. My style is collaborative, warm, and curious. I believe healing can include laughter, play, and moments of wonder alongside deep, authentic emotional work. As you strengthen self-compassion and your capacity for joy, you can begin to experience greater ease in your relationships and a more vibrant connection with life itself. Available via telehealth for folks in NH & MA

Great to meet you! My philosophy is simple: listen first, treat second. I take time to understand your story, explain how diagnoses and medications work, and ensure every decision is made together. You’ll never feel rushed or dismissed. I value transparency, education, and collaboration in every session. My approach to treatment: What you can expect from our first session Our first session is about getting to know you. We’ll review your current concerns, explore your history, and discuss what you hope to gain from treatment. Most importantly, you’ll be met with patience and respect. This is a space for you to feel heard, understood, and supported as we begin working toward meaningful change together.
