From a young age, I’ve always been curious about people and their experiences. I’ve always felt naturally connected to others and interested in understanding what people think, feel, and experience. After having both positive and negative experiences with therapists in high school, I became confident that this was what I wanted to do—and what I felt called to do. I will be fully present with you and actively listen to what you’re sharing, while asking clarifying questions when needed. I may reflect back or summarize what I’m hearing and check in to see if I’m understanding you accurately or if there’s something I’ve missed. I also want to learn directly from you: What helps you feel heard and understood? What tends to make you feel misunderstood? And how might I recognize that you’re feeling misunderstood, even if you don’t say so directly? I want to understand what that looks like for you specifically. I see therapy as a collaborative process. I’m walking alongside you, not in front of you or above you. I may not always have all the answers, but I’m committed to working with you to figure things out. Trust and a strong therapeutic relationship take time, and I won’t rush that process or pressure you to share something before you’re ready. I’ll consider your individual experiences, preferences, interests, and what feels comfortable for you. Most importantly, I believe trust comes from consistency—doing what I say I’ll do, keeping my commitments, and if I make a mistake, acknowledging it, apologizing, and working with you to repair it. I’m a big animal lover, and I always enjoy hearing about clients’ pets and the impact they have on each other’s lives.

Taj-Zsa Hower
My name is Taj-Zsa Hower, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, as well as the owner of Minding My Own Therapy. I have more than 9 years of experience providing mental health services to a multitude of diverse individuals and couples. And 2 of those years were spent working in CSUCI Counseling and Psychological Services. While there, I absolutely loved working with the college population. In fact, I created a speciality service within my practice tailored to the needs and experiences I encountered while helping my clients; Adulting Therapy. I use the term Adulting Therapy to define the emotional and mental journey that young adults undergo when confronted with the varied responsibilities commonly linked to significant transitions into adulthood, such as college adjustment, interpersonal relationships, dating, career worries, financial concerns, and stress management. Just because we have entered adulthood, doesn’t mean we know all the answers or that we’ve conquered every challenge; however, what it can mean, is that we have more challenges, increased anxieties, and a higher need for support. Adulting Therapy can be that support! Adulting Therapy will offer a place to openly address any and everything you are feeling, experiencing, and going through, so you don’t have to face them alone. I deeply enjoy and greatly value being a psychotherapist, as my clients gift me the special opportunity to be a guiding influence in the midst of their life’s journeys. A role that I accept seriously and wholeheartedly. If you believe we may be a good fit or just have more questions, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you!

Feeling triggered, dissociated, anxious, or stuck in patterns like people-pleasing or avoidance? Lost, confused, or frustrated as you navigate big questions about your identity, relationships, or future? You don’t have to figure it all out alone—I’m here to help. Your 20s are tough—full of transitions, uncertainty, and unexpected challenges. It can feel like a lot to handle on your own, but with the right support, you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. I specialize in helping emerging adults like you navigate this transformative decade. My approach is holistic and inclusive, and I have expertise in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma. I go beyond traditional talk therapy by incorporating a somatic approach, which helps you tune into what your body is holding onto. This not only alleviates symptoms like anxiety and depression but also helps you feel safer in your body, build confidence, uncover unconscious emotions and beliefs, set healthy boundaries, communicate effectively, and cultivate healthier relationships. Together, we’ll work to reduce overwhelm, boost focus and energy, and help you feel more alive, creative, and connected.

College can be exciting, stressful, confusing, and really lonely all at the same time. Between classes, jobs, and figuring out who you are, it’s easy to feel isolated, stuck or disconnected from yourself. I’m a genderqueer therapist who works with lgbtqia+ students and those navigating loneliness, depression, identity, relationships, and feeling unseen or unheard. I take a gentle and explorative approach, noticing how your thoughts, emotions, and body show up in the moment. I love to support folks in figuring out their identity, managing perfectionism or “people-pleasing,” or healing from family or religious harm. Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, playful, and sometimes funny (jury's still out on that one...). You don’t have to have it all figured out - you just need to feel ready to show up for yourself. And I'm here to show up alongside you. I also support folks seeking gender affirming care and write free letters for care services. 5 weekly sessions are required before a letter can be written.

If you are sensitive, creative, trying to do it all for yourself and for others, but lonely and stuck about how to resolve the paradox, my practice is for you. Does the following sound familiar? "I will just do everything myself. I can want others, but I mustn’t truly need them…or upset them.” I do my best work with those who can want deeper human contacts in life but who feel uncertainty or conflict about opening up fully and about serving themselves. Your gifts might include: sensory, aesthetic, and emotional sensitivity, intellectual curiosity, desire for fairness and justice, creative and spiritual / philosophical interests, teaching / writing, having ideals, enthusiasm (when interested), and a good first impression (when you feel safe and well). Still, you may have slipped into people-pleasing, social anxiety or reluctance, uncertainty about dependency and safety, disappointed or resentful exhaustion, under-assertion, quiet envy / jealousy, variable or confused boundaries, withdrawal after setbacks, perfectionism, procrastination, or unexplained body symptoms If the above sounds like what you have been feeling and trying to cope with, get in touch with me for some knowledgeable, understanding help in a safe-yet-engaging environment. I am patient, intently listening, insightful about subtleties, and gently persistent. I have faith you can develop a healthy interdependence with life and others. I am here to hang in with you as you make the time to digest help and faith and then make some new moves. It will be worth it!

My practice model is all about helping clients explore themselves and their place in the world. As a licensed psychologist with experience working in a variety of care settings, I have expertise in treating depression, anxiety, lifestyle stress, trauma, addiction, and spiritual/existential distress. My therapy takes a nonjudgmental, compassion oriented focus. Through guiding my clients to approach themselves in more open and honest ways, I help them uncover their core needs so that they may lead lives that feel vibrant and fulfilling. I view health as a balance between mind, body, spirit, and environment. As such, my therapy style is holistic. I regularly guide my clients in mindfulness-based practices and offer an approach that blends Internal Family Systems therapy with somatic work and cognitive-behavioral exploration. In a culture where consciousness altering drug use is on the rise, I also work with clients to gain optimal wellness following challenging, disorienting, or invigorating psychedelic experiences. My passion for the Enneagram heavily informs my therapeutic lens, and I happily teach this tool to clients interested in evolving their understanding of self. I work to bolster my clients’ strengths while developing new skills and fresh insights. With sensitivity to the health impact of both personal and cultural forces, I strive to create a safe, welcoming space for my clients to explore all facets of their identities.

Developmental trauma (experiences as we grow, including our family of origin) shapes how we see the world, sometimes unsafe and challenging to navigate. Our attachments are the foundations in which we trust or find conflict. Developmental trauma may manifest in the body as anxiety, stress, distress, relationship difficulties, depression and more. There is healing to be found here, to be understood and nourished. Well done on the first step in a journey toward wellness. The most important aspect of therapy is finding a person who makes you feel safe and heard. I look forward to collaborating. I have training and experience in working with trauma, family of origin/generational cycles, attachment disruptions, complicated grief and loss, sexuality, sex work and with LGBTQAI+ persons. I love working through emotions, trauma and somatic experiencing. I am Level I Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy trained. I enjoy working with and understanding folx from their perspective; I work with singles, couples, non-monogamous consensual relationships and families. I provide a safe, unassuming space in which you can find felt safety. I appreciate the eclectic person you are and would like to help you identify your own cracks, so that you can let your own light in. I specialize in working with women and teens who have endured trauma. Trauma can cause you to feel stuck, hinder your relationships, and your ability to function in daily life activities. I want to help you change that. I will help you sort out the pieces, find healing, and find yourself again. I can also provide a faith based perspective to therapy if you desire that. Being a therapist and getting to hold space for people in their most broken moments is one of the greatest honors of my life. Every person’s story is one-of-a-kind, and that means your care should be too! When we team up, think of us as partners on this adventure together. I want you to feel heard, respected, and comfortable enough to share what's on your mind. I'll be here to listen, to nudge you out of your comfort zone when needed, and to cheer you on every step of the way. We’ll kick things off with an introductory session, where you get to tell your story and share what you’re hoping to achieve in therapy. Don’t worry – we’ll figure it out together! My goal is to create a cozy, welcoming space where you feel safe enough to open up, be vulnerable, and still feel grounded. After that, we'll roll up our sleeves and dive into making your goals a reality, one session at a time.
