Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
You deserve to feel better, and we're here to help. At Tamarasa Therapy, we provide compassionate, culturally-inclusive and trauma-informed therapy to support your mental, emotional and behavioral health. We know that life is hard. We see challenges as an inevitable part of life, but believe suffering and despair need not be. Even with pain or hardship, life is beautiful and worth living. Our vision is to create a transformative space where deep inner healing and personal growth flourish. We aspire to be a leading therapy practice that fosters an environment where every individual feels valued for who they are and supported in becoming who they aspire to be.
Everyone can benefit from therapy. How often in your day to day do you have an hour where you’re fully seen, heard, and encouraged? That’s what therapy should provide. Too often therapy is misrepresented and clients stigmatized as weak or ill when, in fact, the strongest thing you can do is seek help. Let me help you through your darkest of times or your day to day concerns. There is no issue too big or too small to conquer. I believe everyone has the capacity for self-healing and change and that my role as a counselor is to support clients on their journey towards healing. I'm passionate about helping others through the daily challenges of life and trauma. With special consideration of how power, oppression, and the collective unconscious affect our individual well-being. As a black queer Liberian-American woman I draw from my personal cultural background to encourage clients to embrace and reconcile their own identities and experiences as they heal.
I’m passionate about supporting the mental health of neurodivergent adults. We might work together on managing anxiety, making time for your goals and hobbies, exploring meaningful relationships and more! As humans, there are life events and transitions that seem impossible to carry alone. You shouldn't! I'm here to lighten the load :)
I help my clients manage fear of rejection/abandonment through self compassion and radical acceptance. I help those who are exploring their self identity and need to build up their self confidence. Those who maybe neurodivergent, have immigrated here, or who find themselves not fitting in. I affirm LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Multicultural. My approach is empathetic and culturally sensitive to uphold my client's values and beliefs. I work on empowering my clients to focus on their strengths. I work with clients who tend to be perfectionists and have a hard time making mistakes. I support my clients navigate their interpersonal relationships to connect and communicate more effectively. My approach is validating, client-centered, and direct to meet your needs and goals. There are no quick fixes but developing life skills can improve your overall well-being. I offer a safe platform where my clients are finally heard and validated. I believe that everyone has truth within themselves to unlock questions and dispose of disbeliefs.

I use an integrative model primarily developed from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, with post-modern existentialism. What that means is we focus on what you're doing and I help you decide what the meaning of things are. Meaning of life stuff, or just the meaning of an event. My background is extensive and diverse, so I believe I can offer a great deal of perspective and help you figure out whatever it is that seems to be holding you up.
I work predominantly with students who are navigating the change of college, interpersonal dynamics, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. I hope that through our work together, we can find ways to help you thrive and reach your goals.
Healing Arts Collaborative is a community-driven therapy and healing arts practice based on Occaneechi, Shakori, Cheraw, Tuscarora, and Lumbee ancestral land (so-called Durham, North Carolina). We are mental healthcare workers committed to providing safe, affirming, and culturally responsive healthcare for our 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We value personal and collective artistic, musical, movement-based, dramatic, and written expression, and hold space for these liberatory practices in and outside of therapy sessions. We are inspired by wellness frameworks that acknowledge the impact of personal, community, and environmental relationships and systems of oppression on a person's development, health, and well-being, including: -Healing Justice -Relational-Cultural Counseling Theory -Health at Every Size Principles -Harm Reduction Principles -Social Justice Art Therapy We work together with our clients to challenge the Medical Industrial Complex, white supremacy, ableist cis-hetero patriarchy, and related oppressive systems by naming individual and collective experiences of oppression and learning to live into our innate power. In addition to individual, relationship/family, and group psychotherapy, we also offer therapeutic workshops for larger groups, clinical supervision for pre-licensed mental healthcare providers, and training and consultation for healthcare professionals.
Hi all! Ready for a change? I work primarily around depression, anxiety and life's transitions. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here to provide a supportive environment. Alternatively, if you're looking for some strategies to make positive changes in your life, let's do it!
Some clients enter therapy to learn specific skills and practices to increase their well-being, while others simply want an empathetic listener to help them work through life’s challenges. As a therapist, I strive to create a warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment for clients to explore the complexities of their lives and to feel heard and understood. I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents and young adults on issues surrounding anxiety, OCD, phobias, life transitions, depression, and traumatic experiences. I understand that frequently our emotions and past experiences can keep us from living the lives that we hoped for, and I strive to help clients move forward to live in line with their values.

Life presents each of us with an ever-evolving host of changes and transitions. This sense of change and transition can be even more pronounced for people encountering new opportunities along with new challenges. I work to support people in their processes of change, growth, exploration, and self-understanding, using an approach to therapy that is flexible, empathetic, and collaborative. My aim is to provide structure, consistency, and compassion that helps clients make decisions about how to proceed in different areas of life. This approach embraces complexity, allowing clients the freedom to explore while still maintaining a focus on their treatment goals. Whether someone seeks therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, stronger emotion regulation, coping skills, or anything else, I take an approach tailored specifically to each client's needs.
My primary goal as a counselor is to create an open and non-judgmental space in which clients can express their thoughts and feelings freely. None of us are without our struggles, and I find it beneficial for each of us to have a space where we can explore these struggles reflectively and creatively. I aspire to gain a holistic understanding of my clients, their life experiences, and their issues, so that we might collectively explore opportunities for growth through evidence-based practice. I find great value in person-centered, cognitive behavioral, acceptance & commitment, and existential therapies. However, perhaps the greatest determinant of success is a relationship built upon mutual trust and understanding between counselor and client. I believe that sound counseling practice is an active, and at times difficult, process for the client. However, take comfort in the fact that it is my mission as a counselor to walk with you through trial and tribulation. I would be honored to join you on your journey.

I can help you change unhelpful behaviors and thought patterns such as catastrophizing and self criticism, develop resilience and self care to manage stress, and create healthier and happier relationships. I take a holistic, mind body approach which includes developing lifestyle habits to help you feel your best emotionally and physically. I recognize that most of the work of therapy happens outside of our sessions so I frequently make suggestions for things to work on in between our meetings. My approach is influenced by CBT, Attachment Theory, Positive Psychology, Psychodynamic Theory, and Mindfulness, and trauma informed. I enjoy working with students and professionals and welcome clients of all background and identities into my practice. You can visit my website for more information.
I believe in meeting you exactly where you are. Guided by a commitment to collaboration, I seek to walk beside clients as they forge and discover their own path towards healing. My goal in therapy is to be fully present with clients as we explore their emotions, experiences, truths, hopes, challenges, and strengths, with the aim of helping folks build a life they truly desire. I seek to hold intentional space for processing intersecting experiences of oppression and privilege that impact clients’ lives. Whether facing challenges at school, in family or elsewhere in community, I work with clients to weave, unweave, and reweave the ways they hold their past, create presence in their present, and construct achievable goals for the future. It is my delight and priority to support clients in reconnecting with joy, strength, internal and communal power, as well as their role in individual and joint liberation. Some approaches to therapy that we could use together include but are not limited to: Anti-Oppression & Liberation Frameworks, Creative Arts & Play-Based Therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness & Somatic Based Therapies, Narrative Therapy, Parts Work (influenced by elements of Internal Family Systems and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Therapy), and Person-Centered & Strengths-Based approaches. Some areas in which I have experience supporting individuals includes but is not limited to Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, etc.), Complex Trauma, and Identity.
You’re used to keeping it together, even when it’s hard. Maybe you're the overthinker, the perfectionist, the one who’s always there for everyone else. But lately, it’s been a lot: anxiety, life changes, big questions about who you are and where you’re headed. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and find tools that actually help. I work with teens and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions. My style is warm, supportive, and grounded in trauma-informed CBT. Together, we’ll get curious about what’s going on beneath the surface and build skills to help you move forward. When you are ready to talk, call Gracefully Balanced Counseling at our office number or shoot me an email. We can schedule your free 15 minute consultation, where you can learn more about my approach and if we would make a good fit!
