My work is grounded in the belief that no two people, and no two relationships, are alike in their stories and needs. As a result, therapy with me is highly personalized, and my priority will always be to understand you and/or your relationship within the context of your unique life experiences, beliefs, and goals. I approach therapy as a collaborative, human process and offer a nonjudgmental space for you to be present with yourself, rather than perform. In my experience, this paves the way for the curiosity, insight, and healing needed for real transformation. Though I see clients of all ages and stages, I specialize in working with young adults and couples to build or strengthen their relationships with themselves and others. Anxiety, depression, challenging life transitions, low self-esteem, conflict with friends or family, and issues related to sexuality and intimacy are just a few of the concerns that we can explore and work through together. Using a whole-person, integrative approach, I hope to help you process what’s happening now, while laying the foundation for a more aligned and connected future. If you are looking for a therapist with big-sister energy, you found me! My style is compassionate as well as direct, often with a side of dark humor and always underlined by a commitment to ongoing learning. I know I’ve done my job well when you feel both understood and gently challenged toward lasting change. If you are considering therapy, I welcome the opportunity to learn more about your story and how I can help you move toward the life and relationships you want.

I enjoy working with my clients and helping them achieve their goals and become the best version of themselves. I like to get to know my clients and find out what is important to them, it's not what I think you need to work on it's what you want to address.

Life is hard. You’re tired of unfair social standards and exhausted from your identities not being celebrated, valued, or welcomed. The space you occupy comes with expectations and standards that feel like inescapable constraints. When you pause and look up at the stars you feel a sense of belonging and feel connected to your guiding values yet your day-to-day is missing this feeling. You stay overly busy without time to think about the hard stuff, or you find yourself sad and overwhelmed with less interest in things you may normally care about, and wonder where to go from here. This might be where therapy comes in. Together we can move towards seeing yourself as valuable, living the life you want to live, navigating systems of oppression, and creating community as a way to heal. I specialize in working with adults with marginalized identities. My areas of focus are anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity-related difficulties. During our sessions, we will work within an anti-racist, social justice, Disability Justice, and Health at Every Size framework. If this sounds like a foundation you’d like to work with and you’re looking for the balance between genuine connection, radical compassion, accountability, and a dash of silliness, I might be the therapist for you

I deeply value the therapeutic relationship and strive to help clients better understand themselves. By creating safety and comfort within our relationship, we can more deeply explore familial, platonic and romantic relationships while also exploring clients' identities and feelings of worth.

You push yourself to meet expectations—at work, in relationships, in every aspect of life—because failure isn’t an option. But no matter how much you achieve, that nagging voice in your head keeps telling you it’s not enough. You overanalyze your mistakes, replay conversations in your head, and wonder why you can’t just relax and feel good about where you are. The pressure is relentless. You feel like you’re sprinting toward an invisible finish line that keeps moving. The weight of expectations—your own and everyone else’s—presses down on you. Maybe you’ve convinced yourself that if you can just work harder, be better, prove your worth, you’ll finally feel okay. But deep down, you’re exhausted. And you’re starting to wonder: Does it really have to be this way? It doesn’t. Therapy can help you step off the hamster wheel of perfectionism and self-doubt. Together, we’ll identify what’s fueling the pressure, challenge the patterns that keep you stuck, and help you build a life that feels authentic, balanced, and actually fulfilling—on your terms. I help young adults and teens break free from perfectionism, self-doubt, and external pressures to build confidence and live authentically.

Accepting new clients! I’m Aimee (they/she), a queer and disabled therapist, admitted journaling and stationery addict, strawberry matcha lover, loving wife, and cat and dog mom to a wild tortie calico and weenie dog. I specialize in working with queer and trans folks, as well as folks navigating religious trauma, complex trauma, identity work, and substance misuse. I offer mental health and recovery services for adults 18+ in North Carolina and South Carolina. Meet with me in my cozy office in Winston-Salem, NC or join me virtually from the comfort of your home. This space is for the questioners, deep feelers, critical thinkers, artists, muses, queerfolk, neurodivergent minds, and the beautifully complex. In session, I meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, as we gently explore the patterns shaping your life. If you know the ache of feeling disconnected from yourself, of looking in the mirror and not quite landing in who you are, you are not alone. Together, we will cultivate compassion so you can reconnect, soften, and begin to truly love the person looking back at you.

I honor the opportunity clients provide during their most vulnerable state by providing a warm, nonjudgmental and affirming space. I believe in the power of connection when building a therapeutic relationship with children, teen and adult clients. I strive to empower clients by assisting them with creating insight of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors contributing to current emotional and behavioral symptoms while also supporting the development of holistic coping skills. I have experience in providing therapy in areas of anxiety, depression, teen issues, women’s issues, college students and life transitions.

There may be points in our lives where circumstances, relationships or life events are impacting our well-being. My goal is to be a collaborative partner and a support as we navigate through the process of self-discovery, recovery and healing. It takes courage to take the first step and I want to respect and honor the vulnerability that comes with the process. However, there is hope and each client brings their inherent strengths and experience to the process. I work with various therapeutic modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT, and Prolonged Exposure (PE). I also use other evidenced-based interventions including Motivational Interviewing (MI), somatic and mindfulness-based practices to best address the needs of each client. I am passionate about working with clients experiencing life transitions, depression, communication challenges, relationships issues, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, family issues, peer relationships, social connection, and young adult issues. I value working with students and enjoy helping others navigate what can be a challenging stage in life. Your journey is meaningful, and I am excited to share the process of discovery and growth with you and be a support by offering tools and skills to help you navigate through to reach your goals. I invite you to contact me today.

The students I work best with are often motivated, thoughtful, and used to doing well. They may be successful in school, involved in activities, or working hard toward their future, but underneath that success they may be struggling with anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or OCD. College can bring a lot of pressure. Students may worry about grades, relationships, their future, making mistakes, or whether they are “doing enough.” Some find themselves stuck in cycles of checking, seeking reassurance, avoiding situations, or trying to get everything exactly right. Others may feel overwhelmed by a major life transition, loneliness, low mood, or the expectations they place on themselves. I especially enjoy working with students who want to understand what is happening and are ready to make meaningful changes. My goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where students can be honest about what they are experiencing while learning practical ways to handle anxiety and move forward. For students struggling with OCD and anxiety, I have specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I also work with perfectionism, depression, life transitions, relationships, and the challenges that can come with being a high-achieving student. You don't have to figure everything out on your own. Therapy can be a place to slow down, gain perspective, and develop the confidence to move forward with greater freedom.

If you’ve landed here you are probably seeking connection, and hope to find the right professional to support you. Something has gotten in the way, or you’ve lost your way to a life that is rich and meaningful. It may be about fractured relationship, debilitating emotional struggles, over-reliance on a substance, the grip of social media, the persistence of trauma, or elusive life balance. Or you may wish to deepen progress you’ve already made in making a life worth living. I offer the wisdom and skills that come from over 30 years working in mental health. My 20+ years as a licensed therapist have included direct work with people of all ages and in all combinations, often as I also served in leadership positions in residential programs. My primary approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), including ACT for Trauma. Depending on what is useful, I weave elements of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. The work I do is informed by Buddhist Psychology, and often includes guidance in the use of specific meditation techniques to bring clarity and growth. My own life has been enriched by my experience as a person in long-term recovery, my dedicated mindfulness/meditation practice, and my immersion in the outdoors wherever my travels take me.

I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults across a broad range of life stages. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, identity development, life transitions, relationship challenges, school and work-related stress, LGBTQ+ concerns, and other life events. I also explore how menstrual health, puberty, hormones, perimenopause, menopause, and other cycle-related changes can impact mood, relationships, daily functioning, and overall well-being. Life can be exciting and meaningful, but it can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re facing a major transition, struggling to understand what you’re feeling, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to provide a space where you can pause, take a breath, and explore what’s happening without judgment. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to better understand yourself and create meaningful change. I strive to create a safe, inclusive environment where growth, healing, and self-acceptance are always possible. Wherever you are in your journey, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Come and Mend!

I believe in the basic goodness and natural wisdom of all human beings. Layers of confusion and unconscious wounds can disconnect us from our true selves. We may end up feeling bad and acting in ways that hurt our relationships— with ourselves, with others, and with this magnificent planet. We become hard and out of touch with our lives and callings. Real, deep change is possible when we face ourselves and our challenges with honesty, willingness, and compassion. - As your counselor, I will adventure with you into the weird and wonderful world of your own inner self. I'll use techniques rooted in Experiential Dynamic Therapy to help you touch into the freedom and wisdom already inside you and to overcome the barriers that arise on the path toward that life. Expect to be cared for and to be challenged— if you’re living in a stuffy little house made of old, limiting patterns, it might be time for some demolition work. I’m not afraid to hand you the sledgehammer, and I’ll be with you as you begin to step forward into an open, affirming wilderness of possibility.
