Before I became a psychotherapist I was a neuroscientist with the focus on neuropsychology. My approach in therapy is informed by my understanding of the brain/mind/body interplay. I practice solution-oriented evidence-based approaches, and enjoy working with high-functioning clients who want to boost their resilience and emotional intelligence.

Therapy offers a confidential place of refuge where you can be seen and heard. Together we will explore how daily external pressures and feelings of self-blame, self-criticism, fear or sadness, as well as loss and past trauma, may be affecting your ability to move forward or express yourself in an authentic way. By devoting time and attention to understanding your unique story and the ways in which past relationships shape current ones, you can gain greater self-awareness and an understanding of how underlying feelings and thoughts are affecting your mood. In building a strong, supportive relationship I will help you uncover core issues. I primarily use a psychodynamic, creative approach to guide my clients towards greater self-compassion and clarity that will allow you to feel more confident in your ability to change and heal.
Therapy for Peace of Mind
As a BIPOC and LGBTQ affirming practice, we treat trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and other mental health issues from a culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed perspective. We understand that having a therapist who lived it themselves is so much more important than having one who just read about it in a book. That's why we emphasize culture in our practice of mental health and always welcome the whole client. We primarily use CBT and EMDR as models for therapy. CBT is great for understanding how your unhelpful thoughts and hurt feelings lead to negative behaviors so we can replace them with positive ones. EMDR holds a mirror up to you and your emotional and physical experiences so you can have more self-awareness and answer your own questions. Our clients come to us when they need to feel like themselves again, set better boundaries, and end toxic relationships; and we're looking forward to helping you with the same issues. We will walk with you on your path to healing. It's easy to get lost on that path. Luckily, our experience and compassion are the GPS!

Berkeley Holistic Therapy
Hello! I'm Jess, and I'm a psychotherapist. I love supporting people in their journeys of self-discovery. Throughout my life, hardships led me to seek healing in various forms. The insights and skills I gained in my own healing journey enable me to support others. My expertise stem from challenges I've worked through or experiences helping other people. I help people who long for a deeper connection to themselves or others but feel stuck between being true to themselves and being who they "should" be. Sometimes, this means conforming to the norm or hiding a part of yourself. Therapy can be a space to reflect on how things got this way and how to create the life you want. I know from my own path to wholeness, that it can feel overwhelming, isolating, or frustrating. I believe that we all have an inner compass and an innate ability to heal and grow. Sometimes we lose our way, and it's hard to move forward. I can walk along this path with you, and we can explore together what is most important to you and the direction you want to go. If you're feeling like something has to change but don't know where to start, please schedule a free consultation, and we can talk about how I might be helpful to you. I work especially well with students who are: - Grappling with growing up in a different country or culture than their parents - Questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation - Struggling with peer pressure and trying new things - Figuring out who they are and what their values, beliefs, and interests are - Managing complicated relationships or friendships - Highly sensitive people

Do you always feel on edge? Did something traumatic happen? Trauma is a disruption to the nervous system that often creates patterns and loops that extend into many areas of a person's life. It can affect our bodies, our minds and the way we relate to other people. Sometimes the way people survive their trauma brings them more pain, adds to the chaos, and reinforces negative beliefs that perpetuate the cycle as well as causing other mental health issues grow- such as depression and anxiety. I work with people of various cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities and know that trauma is non-discriminatory. Do you always feel on edge? Did something traumatic happen? My approach to therapy is rooted in a belief that change is possible. Most of my clients come to me because something in their lives isn't working. Whether the problem is familial, romantic, professional, emotional, or even existential, I find it usually comes down to a matter of relationship. How are we relating to the things that cause us to suffer? When we understand these relationships and the parts we play in them, we are free to make different choices, and to experience our lives, ourselves, and our loves in richer, more fulfilling ways. While I see clients with a wide range of presenting issues, I have a high level of expertise in family conflict, childhood trauma, addiction, codependency and eating disorders. I also have a passion for helping artists of all kinds to overcome the self-limiting beliefs that lead to creative blocks. I have additional training in EMDR (an evidence based model for trauma therapy), mindfulness practice, and family systems, and I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University.
